Theme
The theme, as released by Winter MelonJam, was ‘Charm’. From this, I decided to focus my main mechanic on the ability to “charm” NPC’s as Cupid. In Cupid's Game, players take on the role of the ancient Roman God, who comes across a group of friends, relaxing in a ski lodge during their winter break from college. Intrigued, he decides to play a little game of matchmaker with them and charm them into new relationships.
Gameplay Summary
"Cupid's Game" invites players into the magical role of Cupid, the mischievous ancient Roman God of love, as they embark on a mischievous adventure in a ski lodge during winter break. The game, inspired by the Winter MelonJam theme of 'Charm,' introduces a mechanic where players use Cupid's iconic bow and arrow to shoot friends, creating temporary enchantments of love.
The catch lies in the temporary nature of the spell – the two individuals shot will only fall and stay in love if there's a pre-existing spark between them. This adds an intriguing layer of strategy to the gameplay, requiring players to observe the group of friends closely and uncover the subtle dynamics of their relationships.

How to Play
1. Observe - Hover over characters and read their characteristics and relationships with other characters to figure out who they might be crushing on.
Embark on a captivating journey within the snowy confines of the ski lodge, where Cupid's divine intervention takes center stage. Immerse yourself in the lives of the six friends, carefully observing their interactions and delving into their unique backstories. Uncover the intricate tapestry of friendships and connections, laying the groundwork to decipher the subtle nuances of their budding romances.
2. Take Your Shot - Shoot two characters consecutively to make them fall in love!
Armed with Cupid's iconic bow and arrow, take on the role of the ultimate matchmaker. Navigate the ski lodge strategically, selecting your targets with precision. Each shot is a careful dance, as players aim to charm two individuals who share an underlying spark. The art of matchmaking unfolds as you create enchanting moments, igniting temporary love spells that linger only if genuine affection exists between the targeted pair.
3. Epilogue - When 3 couples are decided, Cupid sees into their future!
As a powerful deity, Cupid possesses the omniscient ability to peer into the future of the relationships sparked by their divine influence. Witness the outcomes of your matchmaking endeavours in heartwarming (or upsetting) epilogues. Revel in the joy of successful pairings, and reflect on the nuances of each couple's unique journey. The ski lodge transforms into a haven of love, and players bask in the delightful consequences of their decisions, leaving an enduring mark on the intertwined destinies of the enchanting characters.

Note
Hi! Thanks so much for playing my game. This is my first ever attempt at taking on a game jam solo, so I appreciate any feedback! I had MANY plans for this game. Unfortunately, I ended up starting on the second day. I plan on drawing proper sprites for the NPC's once the jam is over, as well as recreating my own environment assets and make my own music to replace my placeholders. If you have any questions regarding the characters in the game, please feel free to ask below! With that said, please enjoy my game :)

I GOT THEM ALL HAPPYYYYYYY!!! YAY!!
it was super sweet <3
and I love the art
AWWWW THIS IS SO CUTE EGTFRSDVBGHTERFS
Very good art! I wasn't quite sure what to do at first so I randomly shot and ended up finishing the game somehow, but it made more sense when I went back through it again. Overall, great submission(especially since it was only 48 hours)!
This game is really impressive in a lot of ways. The character designs are fantastic (love that mischievous Cupid to bits) and the writing is really solid. The music is a perfect choice and it really pulls everything together nicely. The couples are absolutely adorable as well, I'd love to hear more about their antics!
Some feedback:
-Not exactly related to the game, moreso the itch page: the viewport window seems quite large compared to the actual game and it distorts the page a fair bit.
-I noticed while reading the various character pages that the characters that are walking around get stuck in one another and it looks a bit strange. They are kinda cute to be honest.
-It would be interesting if there were more than 3 perfect pairings. Like, sure, Cory is meant for someone else, but him and Skylar could surprisingly find love together as well, maybe (I think it would add more to the charm of trying out pairings, but I understand it would add a fair bit more work to an already complex project)
Overall I really enjoyed this game, the story is amazing, the characters are cute, the writing feels complex, it manages to explore the characters well and give the player a good look into who they are. Great job making this, it's quite charming.
Haha, I thought it would be cool to add in a mix off different kinds of couples. I definitely wanted more and more endings. I joked about Autumn dating the men for a couple months for their money, or Rachel dating Alex and ending up being an awful girlfriend to them, all as a joke, but I didn't want to make anyone think "This person is horrible omg".
I actually loosely based some of the characters off people I know IRL too and threw some of their characteristics here and there. I will admit though, Rachel and Autumn are based off my gf and I lol.
Thanks so much, it really is appreciated :) I'm glad you enjoyed the game and I hope you know I enjoyed playing yours just as much!!
A lovely game with some wonderful artwork. The color scheme is really impressive, and the descriptions are well written!
